Settling In

Dear Friends & Family,

Things are progressing along very nicely.  We are getting settled into a routine and we are loving life!!  I have been homeschooling her and she is doing great.  At first I was a little apprehensive about this, but after considering all the factors and talking with her doctor and social worker we have decided it is the best avenue to go.  She is grasping the English language very quickly.  She comes up with new phrases every day.

Yesterday was our dentist visit.  This was one visit I was not looking forward to.  We didn't know how she was going to react with the x-rays and having to keep her mouth open for so long.  However, she did great!   Like everything else with this girl she just goes with the flow.   We were expecting the worst, but thanks be to God that she only had one cavity.   I couldn't believe it!!

Today was our well child visit with the pediatrician.   She gave us a referral to go to the pediatric eye doctor about her ptosis in her left eye.  The doctor thinks she actually has ptosis in both eyes.  We will see what the recommended treatment for her eyes will be.   Ptosis is where the eye lid droops over the pupil of the eye.   It seems to be most noticeable when she is tired.  We go back to the endocrinologist next week to follow up with the doctor about her blood tests and bone age scan.  Looking forward to good news!!

Mia is loving her scooter, basketball, and learning to jump rope.  She is enjoying life and just being a regular kid.  She had a blast watching her big brother Michael perform in Mr. Mustang.  He was a contestant in the pageant "Mr. Mustang."  A contest to raise money for prom.   They had to do a talent, model swimwear and a tuxedo.  She was clapping her hands and cheering, so thrilled to see him on stage.  It is so awesome to see her have so much fun and enjoying herself.

I never realized how blessed I would be through this gift of adoption!!  Going through motherhood all over again has been the greatest gift.  I get to see things in such a different light and with a wisdom I didn't have the first time.  Chores are no longer the most important part of my day.  I've found myself spending more time in prayer because I have so much to be thankful for.  Each day is a new adventure for Mia and her Mama.

3 Weeks With Mia

It's hard to believe that Mia has been in our lives for three weeks now.   Time went by so slowly to get her and now that she is here it is flying by.  We are getting settled into a routine around the house.  Sunday was our first trip to church and tomorrow I take her to the doctor for a check-up.  She eats well and sleeps in her own room and has a personality the size of Texas.  It will be amazing to see how she is doing a year from now.
